Cornell Early Decision Notification Date and Statistics

Cornell University has released its early decision admission statistics for the Class of 2024. The university offered admission to 1,754 out of 6,615 early decision applicants, resulting in an acceptance rate of 23.8%.

This is a significant increase from Cornell's early decision acceptance rate last year, which was 18.6%. The increase is likely due to the fact that Cornell received nearly 500 fewer early decision applications this year.

Cornell's overall acceptance rate for the Class of 2024 is not yet known, as the university still has to review regular decision applications. However, with an early decision acceptance rate of nearly 24%, it's safe to say that the overall admissions rate will be lower than last year's 16.9%.

Cornell Early Decision Release Date

Cornell makes its ED decisions available by 7 pm EST on December 17th. That means that applicants will know if they've been accepted, deferred, or denied within a few hours of the decisions being released. Regular decision applicants, on the other hand, won't receive an answer until early April.

Early Decision applicants have more than five months to confirm their acceptance by May 1st. That gives them plenty of time to compare financial aid packages and make a decision about which school is the best fit for them.

So what's the verdict? Should you apply Early Decision to Cornell?

There's no easy answer, but here are a few things to keep in mind. First, remember that Early Decision is binding. If you're accepted through ED, you're committed to attending Cornell. That means you can't compare financial aid packages or wait to see if you get into your first-choice school before making a decision.

Second, keep in mind that Cornell is one of the most competitive schools in the country. The acceptance rate for Early Decision applicants is just over 20%, compared to under 10% for regular decision applicants. So if you're not sure you'll be able to get in via regular decision, applying Early Decision could increase your chances of getting accepted.

Early Decision Deadline

Cornell University's deadline for Early Decision admission is November 1st annually. Therefore, it is essential for anyone thinking about an Early Decision application to be aware of the expectations. Regular admission applicants at Cornell must submit their materials by January 2nd.

If you're admitted through Early Decision, you'll be required to withdraw any applications you've submitted to other schools and send in your deposit to Cornell within two weeks of receiving your offer of admission. Keep in mind that because you're making a binding commitment to attend Cornell if admitted, you should only apply Early Decision if you're absolutely certain it's the right school for you.

Cornell offers a non-binding early action program as well, which has a similar timeline but does not require students to commit to attending if accepted. If you're undecided about whether or not Cornell is the right fit for you, early action may be a better option.

Cornell Early Decision 2nd Option

Unfortunately, Cornell does not offer an Early Decision 2 option like some other schools. Despite this, you may still be eligible for an early decision from them.

Cornell's Early Admission program is a bit different from other schools in that it has two deadlines. The first deadline is typically sooner than the regular deadline, while the second deadline is closer to the usual one. In most cases, for students who apply by the first deadline the early decision notification date will be a bit earlier than for the rest.

So if you're interested in receiving an early decision from Cornell sooner, make sure to submit your application by the first deadline.

Cornell ED Deferral Rate

The Early Decision deferral rate for Cornell in 2021 was 23.6%. This means that nearly one-quarter of all Early Decision applicants are deferred, or put on hold, by the admissions committee. An application is deferred when the university postpones making a decision about the applicant. In most cases, this is because the admissions committee wants to see more information before rendering a decision.

A deferral at Cornell means that an Early Decision application will be processed as a regular admission application. The announcement  date of their early decision is mid-December. This is much earlier than the result date for regular admissions, which is in late March.

Requirement to Apply for ED at Cornell

To apply for Early Decision, students must complete an online Common Application and submit their $80.00 application fee.

Start by making sure you have all the required materials, including your completed Common Application, transcripts, mid-semester report, recommendations, and evaluations. Once you have everything gathered, double check the deadlines to make sure you're submitting everything on time.

Some programs require applicants to submit a portfolio or audition material along with their application. The deadlines for these items are set by the individual schools or departments.

If you're applying to a program that requires additional materials like a portfolio or audition tapes, make sure to allow yourself enough time to put together a high quality submission. Keep in mind that these materials often have separate deadlines set by the school or department.

Conclusion

You've worked hard on your application and now it's time to sit back and wait. The next few months may be nerve-wracking, but try to stay positive. Remember that you're not alone in this process - thousands of other students are going through the same thing. And no matter what happens, there's a college out there that's perfect for you. So don't give up hope, and good luck!
